Certain seasons and times of year feel like sacred

Certain seasons and times of year feel like sacred ground — square one — a fresh starting point.

After this last year, I’m ready for a new chapter where life no longer feels like a 10,000 pound mountain on my shoulders.

Everything — an exhausted mind, a broken heart, terrible sequence of events — is a guide if you change your perspective. It’s a message, an invisible finger pointing you in the direction of what’s out of balance, of what needs to be loved, of what needs your attention. That’s all. You’re being guided. And I’m grateful for that, for being able to see what needed to be adjusted and shuffled around in life.

May your hope for a something better, deeper, richer be strengthened.

Part 5: For 4 days, we asked for prayers and healing from everyone and anyone we knew. While the doctors continued to provide updates about dad and recommended we no longer put him on life saving measures, we had to give him time to come back to us. It hadn’t even been a week and while his care team had no hope left, we did.

Every morning and evening, my sisters and I would stand at his bedside and sing to him songs of inspiration, courage, faith, love, honor. I continued to use energy medicine on his body and worked with the divine helpers to wake up his spirit, bring life back into his soul. Dad particularly loved the song “Ave Maria” when we played it on the radio for him. His face reacted to it as his eyebrows came together every time he heard the song. We knew he was still here with us and we had to try everything to bring him back.

The medications dad was on were called vasopressors. They are extremely potent and to be on 4 simultaneously was something that is done when no other options are available. They worked to keep him hemodynamically stable, but the risks and potential side effects were high. At his point, his liver and kidneys were already failing and they were doing all they could to save his heart and brain, which meant less blood was going to his arms and legs. Every time the nurse titrated one of the vasopressors down, his blood pressure also dropped. He was not at all stable. Despite all the visual signs that dad was dying, our family and our friends weren’t ready to give up yet.
